We try to answer questions daily. Questions are not posted until they are answered.

Here are answers to the commonly asked questions about where to resell Painted Ponies, and what their current value is:

When collectors choose to resell their Painted Ponies, we recommend doing so on eBay. There is also a Facebook group, which was set up by Painted Ponies collectors and is not monitored by The Trail of Painted Corporate Office, where you can offer your Painted Ponies for sale. Here is a link to that Facebook group:

To find the current perceived value of your Painted Ponies, we suggest searching on eBay for the same figurine with a similar edition number. If you have an eBay account, you can look up what that particular figurine has sold for recently, and that will give you an even more accurate perceived value.

I am visiting from Canada and staying in Scottsdale for the next four weeks. I would like to know if I can pick up one figurine from your Cave Creek location while I am here instead of having to have it sent to Canada by you. Please advise. Would take one "War Cry" figurine.Thank you.
Response From Trailmaster:
Welcome to Sunny Arizona. While our official "corporate" headquarters are located in Scottsdale, we do not sell Painted Ponies out of our offices. If you call our number - 480-459-5700 - someone can direct you to a local retailer who does carry the Ponies.

I have a Year of the Horse pony and am interested in finding out more about him however am coming to a dead end, the item number is 12390,the edition number is 0.999/5000 Thankyou!
Response From Trailmaster:
The "Year of the Horse" Painted Pony was created by Lori Musil, a Cerillos, New Mexico artist and cowgirl who also created "CowPony." Both were life-size Ponies that were part of our public art exhibition before they were translated into figurines. Both are also retired.

I can I found out what number I have for a painted pony. I have 4 ceramic ponies where the numbering has faded or was not included.
Response From Trailmaster:
I'm afraid that if the number has faded or inadvertently is missing, there is nothing we can do at this point other than encourage you to enjoy your Ponies as they are.

What is the difference between autographed and artist proof?
Response From Trailmaster:
Beginning with the 2014 Winter Release, we are making a change to the Official Autographed Edition program. Whereas previously this program was run through The Trail and we would purchase low-edition Ponies, send them to the artist to autograph and then have them sent back to our fulfillment center, going forward we are giving collectors the opportunity to communicate directly with the artists, and purchase signed figurines from the artist. There are some important differences between this new Signed Figurine Edition and the Official Autographed Edition. They won't be part of a hand-numbered, limited edition, the price will be determined by the artist, and artists will have the option to decide whether or not they wish to participate. But in the end we think the arrangement will be welcomed by both the artist and collectors.

Do you have a Gypsy Pony?
Response From Trailmaster:
Check back on our website on January 2, when we release the new January 2014 herd of Painted Ponies. I think you will be delighted.

Don Cramer from Texas wrote on December 24, 2013:
Please elaborate on the importance "low number First Edition"
Response From Trailmaster:
Every Painted Pony figurine is sequentially numbered on the underside of the base. This number generally corresponds to the order in which the figurine was cast and painted. In the Art and Collectible world there is a general perception that the lower this number, the more valuable the piece. With Painted Ponies, a First Edition that has a low casting number has been shown to be more desirable among collectors and more prized on the secondary market.

I wanted the Arabian Nights, and now I find it on the retired list. Is it possible to still get it?
Response From Trailmaster:
Unfortunately the Official Trail of Painted Ponies Store is sold out of this Pony. There may, however, be collectors who have one they would like to sell. If one of them contacts me - rod@paintedponies.com - I will put them in touch with you.

The complete "Happy Trails Collection" is not currently posted on our website. We will be re-posting it, however, so check the Collectors Checklist after the holidays.

When the art project was first exhibited in 2000, how many horses were created? And, are painted ponies still be added to the collection? This is such a marvelous and magical collection.
Response From Trailmaster:
When we first conceived of The Trail of Painted Ponies in 2001 as a public art exhibition, we had in mind creating between 25 and 30 life-sized Painted Ponies. We thought that would be a manageable number to sell at an auction to benefit non-profit organizations. But as word spread around New Mexico, cities and towns other than Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque wanted to participate, and that number grew to over 100. We then rolled the project over to a second year, added a new form, so the total came to around 120.

I really loved the design titled "Homage to Bear Paw" that Cheryl A Harris submitted for the Appaloosa competition. I was wondering if this design would be considered to be created as a figurine? I absolutely love the design.
Response From Trailmaster:
All designs submitted to our competitions are given serious consideration. Cheryl Harris has created some wonderful Ponies, some that have been crafted into figurines. As we go forward, "Homage to Bear Paw" may be one of them.
