Do you have a question for us? Please use this form to ask.

We try to answer questions daily. Questions are not posted until they are answered.

Here are answers to the commonly asked questions about where to resell Painted Ponies, and what their current value is:

When collectors choose to resell their Painted Ponies, we recommend doing so on eBay. There is also a Facebook group, which was set up by Painted Ponies collectors and is not monitored by The Trail of Painted Corporate Office, where you can offer your Painted Ponies for sale. Here is a link to that Facebook group:

To find the current perceived value of your Painted Ponies, we suggest searching on eBay for the same figurine with a similar edition number. If you have an eBay account, you can look up what that particular figurine has sold for recently, and that will give you an even more accurate perceived value.

My question is: What is the shelf life for the paint that comes with a paint your own pony kit? Reason I ask is because I purchased a kit over 3 years ago and I doubt the paint is good anymore. Would I be able to find the right acrylic paint at a store like Hobby Lobby? Or can I order certain colors from the Painted Ponies website? Thanks!
Response From Trailmaster:
Please check this month's blog. It addresses this very issue. The reason we stopped offering paint pots with our kits was that in order to keep the kits affordable, we couldn't include high quality paints. Yes, go to an art supply store or a Hobby Lobby, and look around while you are there. You might find some other supplies that will help you create a fantastic custom Pony.

I have been collection these ponies for a very long time i love them. I saw recently in an old Western Horse magazine 2011 that an artist painted a pony with 6 NFR barrel racers, Is this part of you and if so do you know if one is available for purchase
Response From Trailmaster:
It's possible that an artist painted the 6NFR barrel racers on one of our Paint Your Own Pony kits, but there has not been an official figurine released that fits this description.

Have an idea for a design, just not an artist. Would like to see a pony to honor people fighting, surviving or people who have lost the battle with cancer. I would like to see one with all of the cancer ribbons on it. Just wondering how to get this done.
Response From Trailmaster:
This is a great idea and one that we have considered for some time. We have even received some wonderful designs with this theme. So far, however, we have been unable to persuade our manufacturing partners that there is a market for this Pony. It is felt we would need to have a "marketing partner," in the form of a cancer organization, first.

Do you know if there was more than one Appaloosa Peacock, item #4022548, ponie made?
Response From Trailmaster:
"Appaloosa Peacock" was a figurine we produced that was created by the artist Maria Ryan. It has since been retired.

I visit "The Trail of Painted Ponies" website on a daily basis or every other day. I enjoy looking at your new and old Ponies. Is there a plan to have a "Secretariat" or "Seabiscuit" Ponies?
Response From Trailmaster:
During the original 2002 public art project that marked the beginning of The Trail of Painted Ponies, we received permission from the former owners of Secretariat to allow an artist who had painted his portait when he was alive to create a life-size Pony of Secretariat in the winner's circle. Key to this permission was the promise that when the life-size Pony sold, proceeds would go to a Horse Rescue operation. The right to create a figurine based on Secretariat, or Seabiscuit, would be a more complicated negotiation, and one that would probably be not be successful.

How much does a life size painted pony cost? Are they hand painted?
Response From Trailmaster:
The life-sized Painted Ponies that sold at auction and through direct sales began at around $5,000, with several going for between $40,000 and $50,000.

We have Appaloosa Peacock, item #4022548. It broke at back legs and tail. can you fix?
Response From Trailmaster:
At one time there was a "Painted Pony Horse Hospital" - a handy collector who would repair broken Ponies for a reasonable price. But we have not heard from that person in several years, so your best bet would be to check with a local Michaels of JoAnns and ask if there is a person or club that is in the collectible repair business.
