![]() Westward Ho by Rod Barker & Janee Hughes
|
About the Artist:Rod and Janee have collaborated on the creation of several Painted Ponies before, most recently “Bonanza,” which was part of the January 2010 release. The founder and CEO of The Trail of Painted Ponies, Rod was introduced to the American West on a car trip in the late 1950s, during which his passion for trading baseball cards was replaced by a love for collecting vintage luggage and bumper stickers. It was his vision to create a “suitcase Pony” that was decorated with decals, but it was Janee’s special talent for taking an idea and bringing it to visual life on the canvas of a horse that gave ultimate birth to “Westward Ho!” Recently, in memory of the upcoming 10-year memorial for the victims of the 9-11 attack, Janee was asked to design a quarter-size carousel-type horse that is currently being carved by the master woodcarvers at the Salem Riverfront Carousel in Salem, Washington To learn more about Rod Barker, Click Here |
For early explorers and settlers on horseback, as well as vacationing tourists of the 1950s in station wagons, the journey across the American West was a travel adventure often begun with the cry, “Westward Ho!” Adorned with vintage luggage stickers and cantering atop a classic, well-worn suitcase, this collaboration between artist Janee Hughes and Trail of Painted Ponies Founder, Rod Barker evokes memories of both the Old and the New West.
